British fashion is a creative "melting pot"

The UK's fashion and retail industry is one of the most creative in the world, an expert has suggested.

According to Oonagh Brennan, fashion director at Company magazine, consumers are now able to replicate designer looks on a budget.

She explained that in the past people would just "have to make do", but now a good look can be achieved without a lot of money.

"Whatever your style, there is somewhere that would suit you, that you can afford and look great," said Ms Brennan, describing the fashion and retail industry in the UK as a "melting pot of creativity".

She added that the situation is "unique" to this country and that people living abroad are "envious" of it.

It comes after New Look revealed that like-for-like sales in the UK and Ireland have risen by 1.4 per cent in the last financial year, with chief executive Carl McPhail attributing this in part to the fact that people are looking for value-for-money in the current climate.
