Colourful collections expected for 2010

21 Sep
Those employed in the fashion and retail sector are likely to see colourful trends emerge in clothing next year, according to one expert.

Avril Mair, fashion features director at magazine ELLE UK, made the prediction after observing the spring and summer collections for 2010 at New York Fashion Week.

Taking place from Thursday September 10th to Wednesday September 16th, the event showcased the work of designers such as Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and Phillip Lim.

And Ms Mair remarked: "There were a lot of clashing prints (techno, tribal and florals) and the safari trend has been reinterpreted in bright jewel [colours] and neons."

She also explained that sequins featured heavily over the course of the week, as did transparent outfits and cut-outs.

Classic American looks - such as khakis and chinos - are expected to play a part, along with "very short shorts" and flat sandals in a Japanese-inspired style.
