Essence to oversee Google's Chrome push

Google has appointed digital creative agency Essence to oversee one of its online media accounts.

The search engine giant has chosen the firm to manage web marketing for Google Chrome, its internet browser.

It is hoping to take market share away from Internet Explorer and Firefox with the software and is planning a Europe-wide online marketing push in an attempt to secure more users.

Essence now holds responsibility for reaching around 178 million internet users in countries such as the UK, France, Spain and Germany.

According to Brand Republic, the campaign will feature homepage takeovers and display ads on sites such as Facebook, Yahoo! and YouTube.

New Media Age quoted head of consumer marketing at Google in Europe, the Middle East and Africa Obi Felten as saying: "The planning effort for this campaign has been complex ... partly due to our strategy of primarily using online media supported by offline, rather than the other way round."
