Google Buzz 'to encourage Twitter use among retailers'

Those in marketing jobs at retailers may be more likely to start using microblogging site Twitter thanks to the launch of Google Buzz.

According to Andrew Girdwood, head of search for bigmouthmedia, the new facility from the search engine giant allows users to geographically tag their integrated Twitter posts about particular stores to the location of the retailer.

He added that Google Buzz can help create exposure of brands by allowing people easier access to Twitter posts related to the retail companies, such as discounts, news and reviews of service.

"That public slice of social media will be mapped, on Google Maps, to that shop. Then it's just a matter of people nearby, looking for nearby Buzz comments, to see what's been said," explained Mr Girdwood.

Recent research by dotCommerce revealed that only a third of UK retailers with Facebook and Twitter accounts are promoting these potential marketing avenues on their main websites.ADNFCR-2176-ID-19628855-ADNFCR
