Online retail 'to be influenced by mobile devices next year'

New mobile devices and applications will have an impact on both offline and ecommerce shopping during 2010, it has been predicted.

According to Chris Russell, director of eDigitalResearch, these will result in a "big change" in consumer behaviour next year.

He explained that they will bring "more empowerment to the shopper - online and offline" and also predicted that the profile of ecommerce will be raised further over the coming 12 months.

"Enhanced site features - video, product pictures, improved search and product stock availability - will improve the user experience," Mr Russell remarked.

He was commenting after recent figures from the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index showed that £5.3 billion was spent online during November, with sales climbing 25 per cent on October and 11 per cent year-on-year.

And data from The Interactive Media in Retail Group Retail Decisions showed that December 7th was the busiest shopping day of 2009, with £1.4 million spent in one minute at 13:43 GMT.ADNFCR-2176-ID-19531407-ADNFCR
