Paul Mylrea takes BBC PR job

26 Feb
Paul Mylrea has been appointed as the new head of press and media relations at the BBC.

He will assume the PR job on April 6th, replacing Donald Steel, who is to move to the role of chief communications adviser and associate fellow of the BBC academy.

The position involves Mr Mylrea becoming the official spokesman of the broadcaster and he will also be responsible for overseeing the BBC's overall approach to handling relations with the press and media.

Ed Williams, chair of the Communications Steering Group, described Mr Mylrea as "a terrific hire" for the BBC.

"Paul has a significant contribution to make, and I am looking forward to working with him closely," he stated.

Prior to arriving at the BBC, Mr Mylrea spent 20 years at Reuters and also worked in a number of other positions across the public sector.

The Times reported today (February 26th), that the BBC is looking at scaling back its website and cutting a number of its channels in order to reduce expenditure.ADNFCR-2176-ID-19640399-ADNFCR
