Power dressing 'will be popular' this season

26 Aug
The catwalk will see the return of power dressing over the autumn and winter seasons, a fashion expert has predicted.

According to Nicole Smallwood, Marie Claire's fashion market editor, the recession is dictating fashion trends and bringing in a sense of empowerment through clothes, with designers looking to the past for inspiration.

"It's almost a juxtaposition of what's going on ? there might be a recession going on but that doesn't mean we can't still be powerful with it and stride on in this economic climate," she said, adding that catwalk collections in London, Milan and New York all featured this power dressing trend.

Ms Smallwood went on to remark upon the clothes themselves, saying that a lot of them had striking shoulders and featured leather, providing very defined looks.

Designers such as Mark Jacobs have embraced the new-old fashion statement. In his Louis Vuitton collection, Jacobs paid homage to Christian Lacroix, one of the most prominent fashionistas in the 1980s, the Times recently reported.ADNFCR-2176-ID-19332259-ADNFCR
