PR agencies 'being offered Olympic sponsorship deal'

21 Dec
PR agencies that are looking to secure contracts relating to to 2012 Olympic Games are being asked if they would provide their services in exchange for becoming sponsors.

This is according to PR Week, which said that it has seen the tender document that has been sent to six agencies that have been chosen to compete for the business.

According to the news source, agencies from Chime Communications, WPP, Edelman, Publicis Groupe and Interpublic Groupe are all vying for the account, with a final announcement to be made in February.

The clause in the contract regarding sponsorship has been criticised by sources close to the process, but it was defended by director of communications and public affairs for London 2012 Jackie Brock-Doyle.

"What we do with all our contracts is tell people about sponsorship. How they want to structure their proposals is up to them," she was quoted as saying.

There are less than 1,000 days to go until the start of the event, with the International Olympic Committee saying during a recent visit to London that it is pleased with how preparations for the Games are going.ADNFCR-2176-ID-19523565-ADNFCR
