Social media 'a good platform for political party campaigns'

23 Mar
Anyone seeking PR jobs may be interested to learn that all three main political parties are looking to take advantage of social networking opportunities.

A report by Diffusion showed that the Conservative Party appears to have a greater online presence compared to their rivals, with 69 per cent of their parliamentary candidates on Facebook.

Ivan Ristic, director at the organisation that conducted the research, suggested social media formats can prove to be a rewarding platform for political campaigns.

He stated: "When it comes to reaching beyond the metropolitan elites to mainstream voters, Facebook and not Twitter is where political parties in the UK should be spending their time and resources."

In addition, the study revealed the Conservative Party has the largest number of connections on Facebook, including party members, officials, groups and other supporters.

The news comes shortly before the chancellor Alistair Darling announces the Budget tomorrow (Wednesday March 24th).ADNFCR-2176-ID-19685088-ADNFCR
