Velvet named next top fashion trend

04 Aug
Velvet looks set to be one of the major fashion trends in the UK during the 2009-10 autumn and winter seasons, according to Vogue.

The publication, which features the material in a new special on its website, stated that Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren and Christopher Kane have all showcased it on the catwalks recently in a variety of different ways.

McCartney used monochrome, while Lauren went for plum and Kane utilised a mix of "iridescent and holographic tones".

Commenting on the overall trend, Vogue stated: "This time round a clever combination of colours and finishes brings a refreshing take to the traditionally gothic material."

Other items that should prove popular in the coming months, according to the magazine, are ankle boots, wedged or stiletto heels, anything "with pronounced shoulders", shaggy coats and 1940s-inspired dresses with belts.

Meanwhile, nappy pants will continue to be fashionable and black will be the top colour.ADNFCR-2176-ID-19294926-ADNFCR
