Creative jobs already including Twitter in their marketing strategies will be encouraged by a new ad service launched today (April 13th).

The micro-blogging site unveiled Promoted Tweets, which it claims to be "non-traditional" yet "easy" and a development that makes sense for the brand.

Bravo, Red Bull, Virgin America and Starbucks are some of the companies involved in the first phase of the project, which will involve certain tweets "called out at the top of some Twitter.com search results pages".

Not only will such messages be clearly designated as adverts but the company aims to measure which ones are resonating with users and stop ineffectual tweets.

"In every other respect, they will first exist as regular tweets and will be organically sent to the timelines of those who follow a brand," explained co-founder Biz Stone.

More than 60 per cent of registered Twitter accounts are located outside the US and there is even one in outer space.
